Israeli FM Stresses Need to Prevent Iran from Acquiring Nuclear Weapons

(MENAFN) Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar emphasized the importance of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons, despite Israel’s own nuclear capabilities that are not officially acknowledged or placed under international monitoring.

Saar made the comments on Tuesday during talks in Berlin with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as part of a visit he began earlier the same day, according to a post on the US social media platform X.

“We received yesterday, once again, evidence of the Iranian regime’s mad nature. We strongly condemn the regime’s unprovoked attacks against the United Arab Emirates,” he said.

His remarks came after the United Arab Emirates reported, for a second consecutive day, that it had intercepted missiles and drones launched from Iran.

“Anyone who sees how this (Iranian) regime behaves toward all its neighbors in the region - understands the need to prevent it from obtaining nuclear weapons,” he added.

The United States and Israel accuse Iran of developing nuclear and missile capabilities that pose a threat to Israel and other US-aligned states in the region. Iran, however, maintains that its nuclear program is peaceful and denies any intention to build nuclear weapons.
